One Reply to “Promoting the Value of Bilingual EL Teachers”
Some of my student teachers feel that they are neither native nor non-native English speakers. One of them, Nick, was born in South Africa from an Italian mother and a German father. He grew up speaking English outside of home and speaking two other languages in the family. When I asked him ‘do you consider yourself a native or non-native English teacher?’ He said, ‘I don’t know’. He was teaching in Thailand for a while. What, in your view, is the benefit of Nick’s positioning?
