Fostering Motivation in Second Language Learning: A Teacher’s Guide

This chapter explains how teachers can boost student engagement by focusing on the 5 Ts of motivation. First, the Teacher’s own enthusiasm and fairness create a positive classroom atmosphere. Second, using varied Teaching methods and giving students choices helps keep lessons interesting. Third, using Teaching materials that are emotionally appealing and relevant to real life makes learning more meaningful. Fourth, providing Tasks that are challenging but achievable gives students a sense of accomplishment. Finally, using Tests and assessments that focus on personal improvement (ipsative assessment) rather than just competition helps students stay confident and motivated.
